GIRLS DIVING

Meier returns to state

JASPER — Columbus East sophomore Gabbie Meier punched her ticket into the state finals by finishing sixth in the Jasper Diving Regional with a score of 401.45.

“I focused on one dive at a time,” Meier said. “It feels pretty good to go two years in a row.”

This is Meier’s second trip to the state finals after qualifying as a freshman last year.

“She dove really well. She stayed focused, she stayed calm. It was a good meet and a good score for her,” East diving coach Nancy Synder said.

Mia Prusiecki of Center Grove won the diving regional with a score of 472.95.

GYMNASTICS

North tops Royals

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North senior Emily Moore won the all-around competition with a 37.625 to help the Bull Dogs to a 105.075-99.7 victory over Roncalli.

Moore placed first on the bars (9.525), the beam (8.950) and the floor (9.725). Reese Euler was first on the vault (9.5) for the Bull Dogs.

Cougars top Olympians

Columbus East won three events, but Bloomington North picked up a 120-63 victory.

Dathan Wolf won the 50-yard freestyle (22.91 seconds), Gavin Day took the diving competition (181.15) and Misha Machavariani captured the 100 breaststroke (1:04.66) for the Olympians.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Stars survive Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County kept the game close with Class 4A No. 3 Bedford North Lawrence, but the Stars hung on late to claim a 38-36 win in the Jeffersonville Sectional final.

Juliann Woodard led the Panthers (17-7) with 15 points, 21 rebounds and seven blocks. Alexis Carson came off the bench to add 12 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cougars top Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — South Decatur led 27-12 after the first quarter and cruised to an 85-43 victory at Crothersville.

Hunter Johnson finished with a game-high 45 points to lead the Cougars (9-9).

Tiger Cubs ground Eagles

GREENCASTLE — Brown County trailed 24-7 after the first quarter and eventually were handed a 56-26 Western Indiana Conference loss at Greencastle.

Josh Miller led with eight points for the Eagles (2-13, 0-9).
