NORTH VERNON
Agnes M. Matern, 91, North Vernon, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 09, 2022, at Autumn Trace Assisted Living.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at St. Ann Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with the rosary being conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation.
Born on July 18, 1930, in Jennings County, Agnes was the loving daughter of Herman and Antoinette (Buell) Ebbing. She was united in marriage to Joseph Matern on September 16, 1950. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1994.
Agnes had retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital on June 29, 1995. She had also worked for Regal Rugs and Just Rite Grocery. Agnes was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, going to yard sales, and playing cards. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Agnes is survived by daughters, Patty (Ron) Kintner, Mary Jo (Bob) Kent, and Sharon (Tom) Low all of North Vernon; sons, Donnie (Eileen) Matern of Vernon, Danny Matern of Versailles, Roger (Kim) Matern of North Vernon, and Chuck (Sheree) Matern of North Vernon; daughter in law, Tammy Matern; sisters, Mary Ann Maschino of North Vernon, and Theresa Young of Indianapolis; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty-five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Antoinette Ebbing; husband, Joseph Matern; son, Larry Matern; sister, Anna Marie Ebbing; brothers, George, Homer, Tom, Glen, Jim, Richard, Francis, Dennis, and Joe Ebbing; granddaughter, Stacey Matern Wilder.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or St. Ann Catholic Church.
