County’s travel status listed as ‘advisory,’ latest forecast calls for light snow, freezing drizzle

4:15 p.m. UPDATE

Bartholomew County Emergency Management said the National Weather Service is predicting very light snow and patchy freezing Drizzle Thursday night.

Rain has moved into the area and will continue throughout the evening, officials said.

Overnight, light snow and some freezing drizzle will be possible, creating slick road conditions, especially along side streets and less traveled roads. Any ponding water could turn into black ice late Thursday night deteriorating road conditions even
further. Precipitation should be complete by sunrise tomorrow.

 

 

9:30 a.m. UPDATE

Jackson County first responders are still clearing a crash scene on I-65 northbound near the 46 mile marker near Seymour. Northbound lanes of I-65 are expected to be closed for several more hours. U.S. 31 is an alternate route although Indiana State Police said the road traffic there is “slow-moving” at this time.

 

9 A.M. UPDATE

STATEMENT FROM BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

A second round of sleet and snow is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon to the Bartholomew County area.  Currently, the county’s travel status is at an Advisory Level due to numerous slick spots throughout the county due to sleet and mixed precipitation overnight.  Please use caution when traveling.  Highway crews have been out treating roads but temperatures are currently still below freezing and slick spots may still be around on any untreated road, overpass, or bridge.

The second round of precipitation (mixed precip expected again) is expected to begin Thursday afternoon and will bring light snow accumulations, a trace up to one inch.  In addition to the snow, the county could see ice accumulation up to .10 – .20 of an inch.

Bartholomew County Emergency Management has moved the county to an advisory travel status as sleet has coated area roads.

  • The lowest level of local travel advisory, means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.

The National Weather Service said light snow and patchy freezing drizzle is expected Thursday morning across Indiana, producing slick spots and hazardous conditions on roads, side streets, bridges and overpasses.

SEYMOUR — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a crash on I-65 Northbound near the 46 mile marker, just south of Seymour. All northbound lanes are closed due to jackknifed semis.
Numerous crashes are being reported in Bartholomew County.
Update: 6:30 am– Crews are estimating that it will take four hours to clear the crash scene on I-65 Northbound near the 46 mile marker.
