Johnson named to IBCA All-State squad

South Decatur’s Hunter Johnson, who led the state in scoring this season, has been selected to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association boys Senior Small School All-State team.

Columbus North’s Sam King is a Senior honorable mention selection. North junior Cooper Horn, Edinburgh junior Caleb Dewey and Jennings County junior Keegan Manowitz made Underclass honorable mention.

Senior soccer players commit to colleges

Two local boys soccer players have committed to continue their careers at the college level.

Columbus East’s Branson Young is headed to Delta State in Mississippi. Young netted five goals and eight assists last fall and helped the Olympians to sectional titles the past three years.

Columbus North’s Nathan White will play at Transylvania in Lexington, Kentucky. White led the Bull Dogs with eight goals and had three assists last fall.

Lawson named North girls basketball MVP

Senior Kylah Lawson has been selected MVP of the Conference Indiana champion Columbus North girls basketball team.

Andrea Justis won the Bull Dog Award, Kayla Jones was named Most Improved, Lucy Norman won the Spirit Award, Reagan Ables won the Karen McCaa Resilience Award and Lauren Barker won the Free-Throw Percentage Award. Elise Preston won the JV Martha Kalb Award.

Slocum selected North wrestling MVP

Senior Jared Slocum II has been named MVP of the Columbus North wrestling team.

Josiah Green won the Bull Dog Award, Keller DeSpain won Most Improved and Liam Phillips won the Perkinson Mental Attitude Award. Justice Thornton was named Brandon Sheehan Outstanding Freshman, and Erick Perez won the Most Improved JV Award.

Statistical awards went to Thornton (Most freshman wins, most takedowns and most team points), Slocum (most pins) and Liam Phillips (most nearfalls and most total match points).

East to hold meeting for incoming freshman girls

Columbus East coach Danny Brown will hold a meeting for incoming freshman girls basketball players at 6:30 p.m. today in the team’s locker room at East High School.

Bull Dogs holding football callout meeting

Columbus North will hold a football callout meeting for all incoming ninth-through-12th-graders at 7 p.m. April 6 in the North High School cafeteria.
