COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local woman was arrested for attempted murder after she reportedly discharged a gun during a domestic disturbance.

Columbus police officers responded to a residence on March 25 in the 4600 block of Riverside Drive and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the home’s living room wall, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

It was reported to officers that during the course of the argument, Carmela E. Goddard, 43, of Columbus, pointed a firearm at another person inside the home and pulled the trigger, Harris said. The weapon reportedly malfunctioned and later discharged during a struggle inside the house over the weapon.

Goddard was later placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. On today’s date, she was served by CPD investigators with a Bartholomew County arrest warrant with the following charges: Attempted murder, criminal recklessness,
and intimidation. She is currently incarcerated on a 1,500,000 bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
