Mark Anthony Brown

NORFOLK, VA

Mark A. Brown, of Norfolk, Va, formerly of Columbus, IN, left on his final deployment on March 27, 2022.

Mark was born on October 26, 1952, in Pensacola, FL, “the son of a sailor”, to Marvin and Verl (McKinney)Brown. Mark grew up in Newbern, IN and attended the Newbern United Methodist church.

He graduated from Columbus High School in 1971 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving his country on the west coast, Mark became a lifelong Oakland A’s and Raiders fan, but when it came to basketball, Mark always routed for the Indiana Hoosiers; that is until the departure of Bobby Knight. At that point, he never watched the Hoosiers play again.

Mark was very proud of his military service, especially his time on the USS O’Brien, (DD-975).

Mark is survived by his wife, Susan Brown, daughter Tina Lynch (Brent) Columbus, IN, daughter, Mary Ann Brown (Jamie), Monterey, CA, son Joe Brown, Monterey, CA, son Ethan Brown (Kim), Chesapeake, VA, son Logan Brown (Sarah), Chesapeake, VA former wife Sekiko Brown, Monterey, CA, 5 grandchildren, Taryn, Payton, Avery, Thomas and Emma and 2 great-grandchildren, Max and Scarlett. Mark also leaves behind his sister, Cindy Setser, Columbus, IN, his brother Bryan Brown (Karen), Columbus, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents.

Services and burial will be at a later date in Brown County, IN.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to enjoy an ice-cold Budweiser in memory of the ‘Brownman’.
