Jennings County’s largest festival, full of food, fun and historical reenactors, will conclude its two-day run today.

Activities at the Sassafras Tea Festival will begin around the courthouse in Vernon at 8 a.m. today and run through 4 p.m.

Among the free attractions will be tea samplings, a working blacksmith shop, wood carving and other early arts and crafts. A bake sale will feature hundreds of homemade pies, breads and other treats, and a vintage game of baseball will be played at 3 p.m. at the Vernon Gym School Yard.

The marquee event of the final day of the festival — a Civil War battle reenactment at Muscatatuck Park — will take place at 1:15 p.m. Admission for spectators is $5 per vehicle, and organizers say those attending should plan to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on.

The Jennings County Museum will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and food to go will be available during those hours.
