Martha Ann (Brewer) Bell, 86, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at home with her family by her side.

Martha was born February 22, 1936 in Marion County, Indiana. She was born to the late Ernest and Esther (Speckner) Brewer. She married William “Bill” Edgar Bell on February 19, 1955 at St. Ambrose Church in Seymour, Indiana.

Martha was a long time practicing Catholic and when she and Bill moved to Columbus in 1976, she joined St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. There, she served on the funeral dinner committee for many years. She was also a member of The Daughters of Isabell and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Though she was mainly a homemaker as her family began to grow, she also held several part time jobs throughout the years. She worked at J.C. Murphy in Seymour, Blimpees Restaurant, and at Northside Middle School in the cafeteria. Later on, she babysat afterschool children and helped out at her daughter, Jayne’s, daycare.

Martha enjoyed watching birds on the feeders through her dining room window while she worked on pencil colorings. The creations she shared with her family and friends will be cherished for years to come.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Willman, Susan “Sue” Mellencamp, and Jayne Pennington; her grandchildren, William (Dawn) Mellencamp, Raymond Willman, Rachelle (Michael) Cozart, Kie (Chase) Bickel, and Katie Pennington; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Mellencamp, Zachery Cook, Rayven Willman, Lane Mellencamp, Oscar Mellencamp, Turner Mellencamp, Lily Bickel, Kyla Mellencamp, Rylan Cozart, Colin Bickel, Finley Cozart, and Noah Bickel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Ernest F. Brewer Jr., Omer F. Brewer, and Ronald Lee Brewer; sister-in-law, Frances Brewer; grandson, Rylan Kim Willman; and companion, Gerald Mote.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 3 at 10 am at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Chris Wadelton as celebrant. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Friends may gather for visitation on Monday, May 2 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Myers-Reed Chapel. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 9 am to 10 am at church. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Riley Children’s Hospital.

Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and “Nanny”. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family.
