Bull Dogs blank Trojans

INDIANAPOLIS — Third-ranked Columbus North dropped only two games in the three singles matches in rolling to a 5-0 win against No. 25 Center Grove Thursday in a match that was moved indoors at University of Indianapolis because of rain.

Ashlie Wilson beat Rebecca Dick 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Kathryn Wilson blanked Ava Beecher 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Aya Saad downed Valeria Arriz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (9-2).

North’s Tiffany Fu and Leah George topped Hudson Gilstorf and Annaliese Runkle 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Annabelle Sun and Sydney Cooper defeated Madison Herron and Peri Small 6-7 (3), 6-1, (10-7) at No. 2 doubles.

Bulldogs top Panthers

NEW ALBANY — New Albany won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Jennings County.

Tatum Brown beat Maria Witt 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (8-8).

Jennings’ Reagan Brown fell to Claire Meyer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Mia Silvey lost to Claire Stock 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Maria Alberti and Lucy Brown fell to Lily Meyer and Natalie Saydera 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Caitlyn Shuck and Amy Vogel lost to Corinne Miller and Maci Crone 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles edge Patriots

NASHVILLE — Brown County won a third-set supertiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to pull out a 3-2 Western Indiana Conference win against West Vigo.

Anna Stogsdill beat Haley Frank 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (9-4, ). Katie Tipton and Mary Rygiel topped Bre Davis and Grace Coryea 1-6, 6-0, (10-2) at No. 1 doubles, and Abie Bowman and Julia Burt defeated Alex Sartelle and Mady Dill 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Anna Tipton fell to Ines Hidalgo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Mattie Satter lost to Elizabeth Johnson 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Panther boys win

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won its Big Blue Relays, edging Bedford North Lawrence 144-142 for the title.

Peyton Hayden won the shot put (43 feet, 1/2-inch) and discus (128-0), Eli Wahlman took the 3,200 meters (10 minutes, 9.84 seconds) and Evan Sochacki tied for first in the pole vault (9-0). Jennings also won the distance medley (11:16.05), 4×400 (3:34.17) and 4×800 (8:20.40) relays.

The Panther girls finished second with 95 points. BNL won with 126.

Sasha Hicks won the high jump (4-8) for Jennings. The Panthers also captured the shuttle hurdle (44.60) and sprint medley (2:07.38) relays.

Cougars down Jackets

GREENSBURG — South Decatur remained unbeaten in the Mid-Hoosier Conference with an 8-4 win against Morristown.

Avery Seegers went 2 for 3 with a home run and picked up the win in relief for the Cougars (15-2, 8-0). Dale Peters and Seegers combined on a three-hitter.

SOFTBALL

Cougars topple Jackets

GREENSBURG — Lakota Henry went 3 for 4 with five RBIs and threw a four-hitter to lead South Decatur to an 11-6 MHC win against Morristown.

Arey Brown went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Cougars (4-11, 3-3).

Panthers fall to Stars

BEDFORD — Class 4A No. 4 Bedford North Lawrence broke open a close game with five runs in the fourth and went on to post a 12-5 Hoosier Hills Conference win against Jennings County.

Alexis Carson had a home run and three RBIs for the Panthers (8-11, 0-5).
