Veterans get benefits details at Columbus Lowe’s

Columbus resident and Navy Veteran Roger Hardin said he was applying for VA benefits after meeting with VA health care representatives Wednesday at the Lowe’s store in Columbus.

Veterans shopping at Lowe’s home improvement store on 10th Street in Columbus also were able to browse veteran health care benefits on May 11, the Department of Veterans Affairs said.

VA health care representatives, Veteran Health Indiana and Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center representatives greeted veterans and provided information about benefits and starting the application process.

Columbus resident and Navy veteran Roger Hardin said he was grateful for the event. “This is better than trying to go into the VA office. Veterans deserve these benefits. We earned them,” Hardin said. During the Vietnam War, Hardin worked on super fortress aircraft that he says contained hazardous chemicals.

“I’m applying for VA benefits because I worked in those planes for hundreds of hours and developed health issues,” said Hardin.

VA clinics at 2100 S. Liberty Drive in Bloomington and 3791 10th Street in Edinburgh serve veterans in the area. Services at those locations include primary care, mental health, optometry, physical therapy, and addiction and substance abuse care.
