Hauser baseball, softball teams wrap up conference titles

HOPE — Hauser baseball wrapped up the Mid-Hoosier Conference title Tuesday night by defeating Morristown 4-2 on the Jets senior night.

“I’m very proud of this group. They’ve worked very hard to get here,” Hauser coach Nate Long said. “We set this as a goal early in the season or before the season started. They worked hard tonight. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but we had good pitching, and we had timely hitting, and that’s all you need.”

Winning the outright conference was a great way to cap off senior night for the Jets (14-10, 10-1). Koby Johnson earned the win on the bump going the full seven innings and allowing only two runs on two hits with 14 strikeouts. At the plate, he added a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

“The big hits were from our seniors tonight. Koby pitched a gem for us, and Eli (Miller) was able to chase that ball out in center field to finish the game out,” Long said. “Our senior group does a great job. They’re really good leaders, and they’re really good individuals as human beings. That’s something I’m very proud of.”

Meanwhile, the Hauser softball wrapped the MHC by going undefeated in conference play with a 12-0 victory over Morristown in five innings.

The Jets (19-3-1) accumulated four hits in the game and took advantage of six Yellow Jacket errors.

“I’m proud of them. I’ve told them all year that I didn’t want to lose a game in this conference. They, once again, figured out how to get it done,” Hauser coach Andy Brunner said. “We’re having a lot of fun. The girls are working. Both sides of the ball are working very well, even with different pitching.

“We’re still finding a way to put the bat on the ball and get our jobs done,” he added. “Baserunning, we’ve been running hard. We’ve been playing smart, and we’ve been playing hard. We’re excited for (tonight) against East Central and Columbus North on Thursday. Then, we sit down and clean the plate and head to sectionals on Monday.”

Kaydence Gates earned the win in the circle for the Jets going five innings and allowing three hits with six strikeouts in the shutout.
