Baseball players selected All-District

Five area seniors have been selected to this year’s Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association All-District team.

Columbus North’s Will Baker and Dyllan Redmon, Columbus East’s Harry Major and Logan Christophel and Jennings County’s Jacob Vogel made the first team.

Those players now are eligible to be voted onto the IHSBCA All-State squad.

Bull Dogs, O’s earn call-backs to regional

Several Columbus North and Columbus East girls track athletes have earned “call-backs” to Tuesday’s Franklin Regional.

The top three finishers from Tuesday’s Franklin Sectional automatically advanced. After that, the next-best four performances in each event from the four feeder sectionals to the regional earned call-backs.

Receiving call-backs for North were Sierra Newell and Marieme Niang in the pole vault, Kylah Lawson in the long jump, Moana Steele and Alivia Steinkoenig in the shot put, Jessica Meza and Ava Collier in the 400 meters and Natalie Ho in the 200. They join automatic qualifiers Sierra Newell in the long jump, Brianna Newell and Abby Jacobi in the 1,600, Lily Baker and Julie Klaus in the 800, Katherine Rumsey and Julia Kiesler in the 3,200 and all three relay teams.

Earning call-backs from East were Megan Tracy in the discus, Emma Gray and Taylor Scott in the 100, Chloe Krueger in the 1,600 and the Olympians’ 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams. Gray had automatically qualified by winning the 300 hurdles.

North to host girls basketball camp

Columbus North girls basketball will hold its summer youth camp from May 31 to June 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. for incoming fifth-through-eighth-graders and from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for incoming second-through-fourth-graders.

Campers will be instructed by North coach Brett White and his staff, along with college and high school players. Cost is $75 for Grades 5-8 and $70 for Grades 2-4.

East to host boys basketball camps

The Columbus East boys basketball team will be hosting a skills camp for three age groups June 6 to 9 at East High School.

The Primary Camp will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is for boys entering Grades 2 and 3. The Intermediate Camp will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is for boys entering Grades 4 and 5. The Middle School Camp will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is for boys entering Grades 6 through 8.

Cost for each camp is $50, with $30 for each additional camper in the same household. Campers should register by May 29 to receive a camp t-shirt.

East to host girls basketball kids camp

Columbus East girls basketball coach Danny Brown and assistant coach Willie Humes will host the CEHS Girls Basketball Kids Camp from 1 to 3 p.m. June 6, 7 and 9 for girls entering Grades 5 through 8.

This year’s camp will feature special guests in 1980 Miss Basketball Maria Stack and 2020 Miss Basketball Sydney Parrish, who recently transferred to Indiana University.

The camp fee is $50, with checks payable to Columbus East Girls Basketball Camp, and includes a t-shirt. Registration is available at columbuseastathletics.org
