Steven H. Vanest

COLUMBUS

Steven H. Vanest, 71, of Columbus, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Steven was born March 6, 1951, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Harold W. and Dorothy O. Arterburn Vanest. On September 18, 1972, he married Kathy (Katy) D. Barger.

Mr. Vanest worked as a Facilities Engineer for Columbus Regional Hospital, along with many other jobs during his lifetime including becoming a skilled carpenter. He had an incredible sense of humor and would help anyone out if he could. Steven loved music, dancing, bowling, fishing and travel. He was extremely good at playing checkers. Mr. Vanest was really a “jack of all trades” and was an accomplished card player, roller skater and ice skater. He will be missed by those that knew him and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; children, Angela (Jason) Elrod of Salem, Craig Vanest, Cara Vanest, both of Columbus; step-daughters, Melissa (Roger) Deppe of Westport, Gretchen (Allan) Hamilton-Brogdon; grandchildren, Crayle McDonald, Jaquelyn Newton, Vyncent Vanest, VonScott Bair, Piper Vanest, Kolbie Vanest; great-grandchildren, Haizel and Buddy Stevan; sister, Sharon Fulkerson of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with Steven’s wish, cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. There will be no formal funeral service.
