Jets rout Twisters in opener

RISING SUN — Class A No. 2 Hauser began its quest for what it hopes will be a deep tournament run with a 15-0, five-inning win against Oldenburg Academy Monday in the opening round of the Rising Sun Sectional.

Paige McDaniel and Kaydence Gates combined on a two hitter for the Jets (20-4-1).

Maley Jordan went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Hauser’s 14-hit attack. Reagan Johnson went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, Lucie Asher went 2 for 2 with a double, and Kyra Meister went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

The Jets will play South Decatur in the second semifinal at around 7:30 p.m. today. The sectional final is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Saints oust Lancers

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Lutheran scored two runs in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings, then plated two more in the eighth and held on for a 9-8 win against Edinburgh in the opening round of the Lutheran Sectional.

Carly Cowan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Lancers (10-12), who were plagued by seven errors. MacKenzie Bieker pitched all eight innings, allowing only three earned runs and striking out 10.

Lions topple Jets

RUSHVILLE — Hauser fell to Rushville 201-219 at Antler Pointe.

Caleb Wallace led the Jets with a 48. Chase Martoccia carded a 54, Zach Weichman added a 55, Jesse Bragg shot 57, Ben Johnson had a 58, Bryce Kunze shot 59, Marshall Moody had a 61 and Brenden Burton finished with a 62.

Lancers win tri match

EDINBURGH — Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 38 to lead Edinburgh to a tri-match win at Timbergate. The Lancers finished with a 174 to 183 for Morristown and 214 for Waldron.

Keegan Smith carded a 41 for Edinburgh. Cash Cunningham added a 47, Trevor Moon and Wyatt Burton each shot 48, Devyn Milburn had a 49 and Mason Calhoun finished with a 51.

UNIFIED TRACK AND FIELD

East, North tie for 10th in sectional

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East and Columbus North both scored 72 points to tie for 10th in the Bloomington North Sectional. Indian Creek (119), Franklin (112) and Bloomington North (92) claimed the three qualifying spots to Saturday’s Bedford North Lawrence Regional.

Mackenzie Allman won her flight of the shot put with a leap of 11 feet, 8 1/2 inches, and Isabella Westerfeld won her flight of the long jump (8-7 1/2 to lead the Olympians.

For the Bull Dogs, Gavin Bayne finished second in his flight of the long jump (15-2 1/2), and Caleb Griffin took second in his heat of the 400 meters (1 minute, 29.11 seconds).
