North moves to sectional final

BLOOMINGTON — Class 4A No. 6 Columbus North advanced to tonight’s Bloomington North Sectional final with a 7-0 semifinal win against Bloomington North on Thursday.

Maddi Rutan went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Bull Dogs (20-3). Kelsey Lovelace went 2 for 4 with a double, and Taylor Hadley had two RBIs.

Rutan and Rachel Cowan combined on a three-hitter and 13 strikeouts for the North. The Bull Dogs scored five times in the first and twice in the fifth and managed eight hits.

The Bull Dogs advance to tonight’s 7 p.m. sectional final to meet the winner of the second semifinal between Columbus East and Shelbyville. That game was suspended because of lightning with the Golden Bears leading 8-2 in the bottom of the third and is scheduled to resume at 5:30 p.m. today.

BOYS GOLF

North, East go 1-2 in tri match

Luke Schneider won medalist honors with a 38 to lead No. 15 Columbus North to a tri-match win at Otter Creek. The Bull Dogs scored a 158 to 174 for Columbus East and 193 for Providence.

Aditya Banerjee carded a 39 for North. Tyler Wilks added a 41, Willy Davis shot 43 and Damon Gregory had a 45.

Pierce Arnholt led the Olympians with a 39. Carter Greene carded a 43, Ben Luedeke added a 48, Spencer Erfmeier shot 49 and J.T. Kulhman had a 51.

Lancers finish third

EDINBURGH — Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 37, but Edinburgh finished third in a tri match. Shelbyville edged Morristown 173-174, and the Lancers scores a 184.

Mason Calhoun carded a 46 for Edinburgh. Trevor Moon added a 48, Cash Cunningham shot 53, Devyn Milburn had a 56 and Keegan Smith finished with a 64.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Panther relay team qualifies

BLOOMINGTON — Jennings County qualified for the June 4 Boys Track and Field State Finals with a second-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay in Thursday’s Bloomington North Regional.

Lane Elsner, Aidan Ernstes, Eli Wahlman and Brenden Baker ran a school-record 8 minutes, 3.37 seconds.

The Panthers finished 10th overall as a team in the regional.
