COLUMBUS
Mary E. Simpson, 84, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Simpson was born April 6, 1938, in Jennings County, the daughter of Cecil and Opal Lutz Tempest.
She married Robert O. Simpson April 6, 1958.
Mary was a homemaker and a member of Ogilville Christian Church where she was an organist for more than 10 years.
She was a seamstress and enjoyed collecting dolls, flower gardening and quilting.
The most important thing to her was family.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of 64 years; children, Lisa (Greg) Bryant, Patricia Neafus, Rob (Julie) Simpson and Susan (Chuck) Naylor all of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild to arrive soon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lewis and John Tempest.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 Friday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Dr. Martin E. Wright officiating.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Sweeney Cemetery in Columbus.
