FORT WORTH, TEXAS
Anne Rounds Garrett passed peacefully early on Monday June 6, 2022, in Fort Worth, TX with family at her side.
Anne was born in Mount Sterling, IL, the only child of Parke and Mary (Brooks) Rounds. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her adoring husband James H. Garrett in 2019. She is survived by three children and their families: James Jr. and Diane Garrett of Howell, MI; David and Cheryl Garrett of Harbor Springs, MI; Sarah Garrett &Diana Gonzales of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Anne attended Purdue University, where she met Jim early in her first year. She was a member of the Purdue Christian Fellowship and the Purdue Auto Club and enjoyed the occasional road race. Anne and Jim married in 1956 while students and she graduated from the Purdue School of Pharmacy in 1958. After graduation, Anne and Jim made their home and started their family in Columbus, IN, where Jim worked for Cummins Engine Company and Anne worked as a pharmacist for Carpenter’s Drug Store and then Doctors Park Pharmacy for many years.
Anne and Jim traveled extensively through Jim’s career for Cummins, notably moving the family to England for 3 years in 1973. She embraced the adventure and visited as many manor houses, museums, and castles as she could. She studied abstract embroidery and many new-to-her media including brass rubbings of medieval figures in ancient churches. Anne was talented with embroidery and fiber arts, with a special fondness for ecclesiastical pieces. She was also a voracious reader and library supporter. She favored only classical music and was a treasure trove of knowledge. Anne and Jim were long-time committed members of North Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where Anne volunteered for the music department.
In 1990, the pair moved to San Antonio Texas. Anne was adamant never to experience snow again. They both did their best to maintain their ties to Columbus, and to their many engineering friends over the years. After Jim’s death in 2019, Anne moved to Fort Worth, TX to live near Sarah and Diana. As time progressed, Anne needed more watchful care and during the last year she suffered several falls that took their toll on her strength.
