Heat advisory issued for Columbus and Bartholomew County

Bartholomew County Emergency Management said a heat advisory has been issued until 9 p.m. today for Bartholomew County and Columbus.

Nearby cities also under the advisory are Franklin, Shelbyville and North Vernon.

The advisory will continue from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat indexes of up to 105 degrees are expected today, with heat indexes of up to 108 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Those within the heat advisory area are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
