MORGANTOWN
Stephen R. Kirts, 75, of Morgantown, passed away at 7:08 p.m. Monday, June13, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient facility.
He was the oldest of five children born to Raymond and Alice Mounts Kirts in Jackson County Indiana. Steve graduated from Columbus High School in 1964. He continued his education at the United States Air Force Academy and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the IU Kelly School of Business. Steve began his professional career as a consultant for Arthur Anderson in Chicago and then transferred to Indianapolis. He continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force National Guard for several years. He concluded his professional career in March 2021 when he retired from Crane Naval Base as a NSWC Crane Contract Specialist.
Mr. Kirts is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Randy) Johnson, Shannon (Sam) Hickey; grandsons, Joshua Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Caleb Hickey, Connor Hickey, Corban Hickey and the mother of his daughters, Sandra Kirst Cantrell. Also surviving are Steve’s sisters, Sharon (Lee) Kirts-Thompson, Shirley Wilder; brother, Stanley (Paula) Kirts; six nephews; a niece; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Stuart Kirts; nephews, Joshua Colglazier, Daniel Kirts and Jonathan Baker.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place a memorial service will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Dennis W. Aud officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday. A live stream of the memorial service may be viewed at 3:00 p.m. Monday at barkesweaverglick.com.
Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Inurnment will be at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.
