Two employees of the Bartholomew County Highway Department were recently honored for the level of skill and dedication they bring to their work.

Crew chief David Moore has been named the Outstanding Maintenance Employee for 2022 by the Indiana Association of County Highway Engineers and Supervisors.

County highway engineer Danny Hollander shared the news at a recent Bartholomew County commissioners’ meeting and also noted that equipment operator and laborer C.W. McKittrick received the award in 2021, which was its inaugural year.

“We didn’t get to recognize him because of COVID and we weren’t meeting, so we brought him back to you,” said Hollander.

Both men were commended by the county commissioners for their work.

Moore is one of the department’s longest-serving employees, with 41 years of service that includes more than 30 years as a crew chief. In his letter of nomination, Hollander commended Moore’s chip and sealing expertise, planning skills and leadership.

“But I think his most valuable quality is his attitude,” Hollander said. “He is the first one to arrive at work every day. He doesn’t complain about whatever job he is assigned.”

McKittrick has been with the department for 23 years. Hollander said that he is a skilled equipment operator, great builder and adept at a variety of trades.

“Equipment Operator/Labor is the title of his job description, because that’s what fits into the county job categories,” he wrote. “A more accurate job description would be artist/craftsman/inventor.”
