Four Columbus Regional Health employees are the 2022 recipients of a Robert Borczon Memorial Scholarship to further their education and careers in health care.

Robert Borczon, former chief administrator at Columbus Regional Hospital from 1967 until his retirement in 1985, believed in the importance of education and desired that CRH employees be provided an opportunity to further their training.

Upon his death in 1998, and to honor his commitment to education, a fund was established with Columbus Regional Health Foundation to award scholarships to hospital employees who are seeking professional development in a health-related career through post-secondary education.

Annually, four winners each receive a $3,000 scholarship. Award winners are selected based upon financial need, quality and completeness of application, timeframe for completion of program and academic performance or potential.

The recipients are:Julia Montiel has been with Columbus Regional Health since 2014, and began working as a nurse in the Emergency Department in 2019. She is a preceptor in the emergency department while working toward a bachelor of science in nursing. Eventually, she plans to also pursue a master of science in nursing, and one day hopes to hold a leadership role at CRH. Julia is described by her coworkers as positive, hard-working, naturally compassionate, and highly dependable.

Katlyn Kinker has been a patient care technician and command center specialist at CRH since 2019. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology, and is working toward a bachelor degree in nursing. She has known from a very early age that she wanted to give back to the community and help those around her by becoming a nurse.

Michelle (Missy) Woods began working as a patient resource specialist with CRH Mental Health Services in 2020. At present she is pursuing certification as an LPN. Having dreamed of being a nurse for many years, she is excited to learn and put her education to work helping patients feel more comfortable and knowledgeable and assisting with their care. Missy’s coworkers praise her dependability, patience, kindness, and ability to think quickly and remain calm in stressful circumstances.

Wesley Webb joined CRH as a phlebotomist in 2016, and will begin a Licensed Practical nursing program in August. Upon obtaining his LPN, he plans to become an RN, and eventually earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
