COLUMBUS
Harold Lyman Pruitt, 96, of Columbus, died on Wednesday, June 22nd 2022, at the Silver Oaks care facility in Columbus. He was born at home in Christiansburg, Brown County on November 25th, 1925 to Blanch R. Roush and William S. Pruitt.
Known by his middle name Lyman to many, he was known for his long devotion to Bethel Baptist Church and as an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball &IU basketball fan. He also shared a great love of the outdoors, through gardening and hunting, continuing to be active in both at 92 years of age. He had a very green thumb and loved to sneak gift bags of apples, peaches, etc. to church members, neighbors and co-workers. A passionate hunter, Lyman killed his last buck at age 92.
Although a skilled Tool &Die maker by trade, he put his considerable carpentry skills (learned from his father) to use and built a home with wife Margie (McQueary) in Walesboro in 1965. Soon after, he became a member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving as a trustee and youth fellowship leader. His clever pranks, (learned in the hills of Brown County) at church camp family retreats were hilarious.
He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1943 and that same year went to work for Vernco of Columbus as a Tool &Die maker. He worked there until his retirement at age 67, being absent only a handful of days over those 49 years.
He is preceded in death by mother Blanch and father William Pruitt, Brothers: James and William Pruitt. Sisters: Ruth and Virginia Pruitt. Jeanette Watts, Wilma Donoe, Esther Bowles, Bernice Torrey, Bonnie Risk, and Patti Hanner.
Survived by daughter Beverly Denise Wall of Palm Coast, FL and David M. Pruitt of Lawrenceburg, IN. Grandsons Chris Wall and Matt Wall. Grandsons Alex Pruitt and Dustin Pruitt. Great granddaughter Ellie Wall.
