David W. Keith

SCIPIO, INDIANA

David W. Keith, 73, a resident of Scipio, Indiana, passed from this life at 6:36 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

David was born in Columbus, Indiana, October 9, 1948, the son of Chester R. and Olga Marie Meyer Keith. On September 19, 1983, David married Denise L. Thompson; she survives.

David was a 1966 graduate of Columbus High School. He played baritone in the school band; this would allow him to attend all the Columbus Bulldogs home basketball games when every game was a sellout. David attended Vincennes University on the Ford Scholarship and graduated with an associate degree.

David was a United States Army veteran, he served with the 4th Division during the Vietnam War.

He was a mechanic at Mahan Ford and then was the co-owner with Stan Wilson of C&W General Repair on Chestnut Street in Columbus. After retirement and currently, David was delivering auto parts for AutoZone.

A race fan, David enjoyed membership in the Columbus Go Kart Club, and he always enjoyed attending the Hoosier 100 and the Indianapolis 500. David was also a member of the Reddington Rear Wheelers Tractor Club. David and Denise have been longtime volunteers and caretakers of the Scipio Park.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Denise; brother, Richard Keith of Tucson, Arizona; niece, Meredith Keith of Tucson, Arizona; nephews, Travis (Bridgett) Thompson of Austin, Texas, John Paul (Jordan) Thompson of Scipio, and Trent (Megan) Thompson of Scipio; and great-nieces and nephews, Xela Keith Chirch of Tucson, Arizona and Reid, Ellie, Kaylee, and Allison; and his faithful companion, Lucy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Olga Keith.

In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation is planned. Celebration of Life services will be announced in the near future.
