Fourth Street closes west gates on weekends

Local restaurants plan to once again use weekend street closures to attract visitors downtown.

The Columbus Board of Works has approved a request — submitted by Garage Pub and Grill — to close Fourth Street from Jackson to Washington Street from 5-11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 29.

“That’s similar to what they did last year, as long as the weather’s nice and people are out and about,” said engineering technician Aimee Morris.

Dustin Craig, one of the restaurant’s co-owners, said that the closures are for a “weekend summer celebration where the outdoors can be enjoyed safely.”

“The Garage feels like it will create a fun summer atmosphere and create a safe environment for people to see what downtown Columbus has to offer,” he wrote.

The restaurant’s request cited support from Taku Japanese Steakhouse, Yats and Bucceto’s, though Columbus Bar wasn’t sure whether the past events and closures had helped its business.
