A local organization is once again seeking the community’s help to spread some sunshine to Bartholomew County youth.

Starting on Aug. 13, the Council for Youth Development will distribute 8,000 postcards across the community for its annual “Shine On” campaign to celebrate the United Nations’ International Youth Day, which occurs on Aug. 12 each year.

CYD Youth Ambassadors will hand out the free postcards at the Columbus Farmers Market on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Individuals will also be able to pick up cards from a number of distribution sites starting that same day. A list is available at cydbartholomew.org.

“This community has a long history of supporting and encouraging young people and we hope to see many residents picking up a free postcard and sending a thoughtful note to those young people in their lives,” said CYD Director Heather Carson.

The organization envisions that, through these notes, thousands of young people will be “reminded of their importance and impact in our community.”

CYD Youth Ambassadors gave out almost 2,000 postcards to Bartholomew County families and residents at the Bartholomew County School Supply Assistance Program’s annual distribution event.

Community members can also celebrate International Youth Day on social media with the tag #ShineOn2022.

CYD’s 2022 “Shine On” postcard designs were created by four local student artists: Aniket Ghatge, Jessica Meza, Lucy Nevins and Ellia Shibata.
