WESTPORT, INDIANA

Marilyn Kay Burton, 83, of Westport passed away at 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Morning Breeze Health Care Center in Greensburg. She was born on June 25, 1939 in Greensburg, the daughter of Walter B. and Roxie Corrine (Mozingo) Reed. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a Westport resident since 1967.

She had graduated from Greensburg High school in 1957 and had been a field supervisor for the US Census for 19 years. She was a member of the Westport Baptist Church. Marilyn enjoyed fishing, playing cards and gardening.

She married Chester Burton in Westport in January 1969 and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2006.

She is survived by her daughters, Merri Ann (William) Fox of Columbus and Roxanna Lee (Bart) Metz of Greensburg; her sons, Michael Reed Hempsteed of Greensburg and Douglas Glen (Jessica) Burton, of Glenwood; her sister, Carol Sue Reed of Bright; her, 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester Burton; her daughter, Deborah Sue Hempstead; her son, Greg Allen Hempstead; her sisters, Amy Osting and Mary Jane Reed; her great grandson, Cameron Douglas Burton; her great granddaughter, Erika Calvert.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Neil Stewart Officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westport Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
