CPD swears in 4 new officers

Four new Columbus police officers were sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop during the Board of Public Works meeting Tuesday at Columbus City Hall.

Kareem Ash (CPD #287) was born in Trinidad and is a graduate of Columbus East High School. He later earned an associates degree from Ivy Tech Community College and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was most recently employed at the Bloomington Police Department as a patrol officer.

Daniel Craig (CPD #288) from Batesville is a 2018 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School in Osgood. He previously worked as an electrician and was a reserve officer for the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

Chelcie Ragsdale (CPD #289) lives in Columbus and is a graduate of Penn Foster High School. She also attended Ivy Tech Community College. and previously served in the United States Marine Corps.

Drew Yeley (CPD # 290) lives in Columbus and is a graduate of Columbus East High School. He attended the Indiana Institute of Technology and later enlisted in the Indiana National Guard where he served for six years as a military police officer. He also previously worked as a corrections officer with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. He is the son of retired Columbus Police Officer Craig Yeley (#122) and the grandson of retired CPD officer Ed Yeley (#16).

Officer Ash will start the Columbus Police Department’s field training program in the upcoming weeks, while officers Craig, Ragsdale and Yeley are scheduled to begin their training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy this month.
