Blues fest upcoming in Bean Blossom

Singer Gordon Bonham is among scheduled entertainers at the Southern Indiana Blues Fest.

The annual Southern Indiana Blues Fest is scheduled Aug. 25-27 at the Bill Monroe Music Park and Campground in Bean Blossom.

The venue has been hosting live blues since 1999.

The blues festival weekend kicks off Thursday with an open jam session hosted by the Bloomington Blues Group House Rockers. Bring your blankets, chairs, coolers and head to the Hippy Hill Stage to enjoy an evening of music beginning at 7 p.m. The jam is open to all musicians. Sign up at the Hippy Hill stage beginning at 6 pm. After the music ends, jams continue around the campground until the wee hours of the morning.

Friday and Saturday feature a full lineup of award-winning bands with a variety of different blues styles. Gates open at 10 a.m., music begins at noon on the Hippy Hill Stage and continues until 11 p.m. nightly, alternating between the Main Stage and Hippy Hill Stage. New this year are workshops from favorite artists in the Pavilion.

To get around the campground and enjoy the jams and stages, organizers are encouraging fans to rent a golf cart.

New this year will be a golf cart parade and decoration contest. The parade and contest will be at 8:30 p.m. Saturday just before Shemekia Copeland takes the stage. Prizes will be awarded. The parade will end up at the main stage for a group photo.
