North shuts out Southport

INDIANAPOLIS — Eighth-ranked Columbus North dropped only one game in the five matches Thursday in rolling to a 5-0 Conference Indiana win at Southport.

Hank Lin beat Drew Youmans at No. 1 singles, Parth Shah downed Rey Martinez at No. 2 singles and Austin Clark topped Dalton Little at No. 3 singles, all by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Bull Dogs (6-1, 1-0).

North’s Anvay Atram and Amrit Kar also won 6-0, 6-0 against Ben Munoz and Zacob Rodriguez at No. 1 doubles. Darren Li and Toki Murabayshi defeated Liam Bailey and Brandon Abott 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Olympians down Cubs

MADISON — Columbus East won four matches in straight sets in picking up a 4-1 win at Madison.

Erik Takahashi beat Mitchell Cammack 7-6 (6), 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Matthew Degner downed Kaid Fink 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Brady Redelman topped Abe Reetz 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (2-3). Tyler Ernst and Ethan Kirk defeated Tucker Whitaker and Colton O’Neal 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

East’s Jacob Dettmer and Ethan Bumbalough fell to Bodie Harsin and Bryce Miller 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Owls topple Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won at No. 2 singles, but Seymour took the other four matches to post a 4-1 victory.

Parker Bales beat Hunter Heckman 6-1, 3-6, (10-6) at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (6-2).

Jennings’ Owen Law fell to Eli Meyer 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Janne Sebastian lost to Parker Thompson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Justin Ramey and Ryan Schuck fell to Jack VonDielingen and Joe Schmidt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Alex Leach and Ty Zohrlaut lost to Ruben Kruse and Trevor Alberring 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Stars stop Eagles

BEDFORD — Brown County had to forfeit the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles positions and fell 5-0 at Bedford North Lawrence.

Jack Sichting lost to Graham Turner 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Jon Kirchoffer fell to Jayden Kemp 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Eagles (1-5). Owen East and Sawyer Gore lost to Gavin Baker and Isaac Bridges 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Braves blank Lancers

EDINBURGH — Indian Creek won all five matches in straight sets in handing Edinburgh a 5-0 defeat.

Max Blandford fell to Peyton Strunk 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Austin Brockman lost to Brendan Conner 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Milas Burkman fell to Grant Dalton 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (1-6).

Edinburgh’s Bailey Totten and Braylon Lenkner lost to Aiden Pemberton and Landon Sichting 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Teddy Crawhorn and Jayson Music fell to Aaron Spurgeon and Trent Voltz 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

East outscores Madison

Katie Hong won medalist with a 39 to lead Columbus East to a 182-203 win against Madison at Otter Creek.

Carter Gant carded a 40 for the Olympians. Lilly Steinwedel added a 50, Grace LaSell shot 53, Avery Brooks had a 56 and Dyana Foster finished with a 58.

Eagles defeat Jackets

SHELBYVILLE — Hannah deWeerdt won medalist honors with a 44 to lead Brown County to a 199-247 win against Morristown at Blue Bear.

Lilly VanNess carded a 47 for the Eagles. Chloe Poling added a 53, Ava Stogsdill shot 55 and Savannah Poling had a 61.

North falls to Roncalli

Columbus North ran into perennial power Roncalli and came away with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-11 defeat.

Karen Dutro recorded two kills and one ace, and Emma Burns had 10 digs and five aces to lead the Bull Dogs (3-4). Roselynn Venegas added nine digs.

Saints top Jets in 4

INDIANAPOLIS — Hauser won the first set, but Indianapolis Lutheran rallied for a 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 victory.

Kenze Bostic recorded 16 kills and five blocks, and Adrianna Musillami had 29 assists and three aces to lead the Jets (6-2). Mattie Foster notched 18 digs.

Also for Hauser, Charlie Clark tallied five kills and 17 digs, Kayden Miller pounded four kills and Aniston Bostic added three kills and four blocks. Kenze Bostic and Norah Berkenstock each had one assist, Musillami posted 14 digs, Kyra Meister added 13 digs and Kenze Bostic and Foster each served two aces.

Panthers sweep Stars

BEDFORD — Jennings County had little trouble in rolling to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-12 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Taylor Mowery led the Panthers (3-2, 2-0) with 15 digs and six aces. Abrey Belding pounded eight kills, and Avynn Belding had three blocks.

Franklin rallies past Trinity

FRANKLIN — Trinity Lutheran won the first two sets, but Franklin rallied for a 14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-7 victory.

Bailey Tabeling led the Cougars (3-3) with 27 kills and four aces. Addison Darlage recorded 40 assists, and Laura Roeder notched 39 digs.

Also for Trinity, Carson Bowling pounded 12 kills, Madison Keith had 16 digs and Tabeling added 11 digs. Roeder served three aces, and Darlage added one ace.

BOYS SOCCER

Jets open with defeat

KNIGHTSTOWN — With several athletes playing in their first-ever soccer game, Hauser trailed only 1-0 in its season opener before Knightstown pulled away for a 5-0 victory.

Will Walters played the first 50 minutes in goal and posted nine saves for the Jets. Luke Bruner recorded six saves over the final 30 minutes.

Spartans blank Eagles

SHELBYVILLE — Brown County came out on the short end of a 6-0 decision at Southwestern (Shelby).

Mareck Reeves posted nine saves, and Dagan Clarke added two saves for the Eagles (0-3).

Hauser boys take third

GREENSBURG — Hauser’s boys finished third and South Decatur fifth in the South Deactur Invitational at Baptist Youth Camp. Milan won with 19 points, and South Ripley edged the Jets 77-86 for second.

Colin Kistler and Nolan Dailey led Hauser with fifth- and sixth-place finishes in 18 minutes, 40.6 seconds and 18:50.5 for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Ledger Gelfius took 14th in 20:11.8, while Mason Moore 24th (21.11.8) and Collin Buck 28th (21:38.8).

Conner Newby led the Cougars with a sixth-place finish in 20:21.5. Donovan Hale was 19th (20:43.8), Jack Hamilton 26th (21:22.5), Chase Kalli 27th (21:31.8) and Damian Jackson 32nd (21:49.3).

In the girls meet, South Decatur and North Decatur each finished with 39 points, but the Chargers won with the faster sixth runner. Clair Schoettmer finished sixth in 25:48.6 to lead the Cougars, while Maria Nobbe was ninth (26:15.7), Brayley Sundal 11th (26:36.6), Elizabeth Flessner 16th (27:51.3) and Sami Storm 19th (31:05.3).

Hauser had four girls runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Lucie Asher finished fifth in 25:38.4, while Madison Hollman was seventh (25:56.3), Amanda Steward 10th (26:28.6) and Reiss Kistler 21st (31:55.0).

Floyd bests Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Floyd Central scored twice in the first half and went on to post a 3-0 HHC win at Jennings County.

The Highlanders outshot the Panthers (1-4, 0-2) 35-2 Alayna Phillips recorded 29 saves.
