East blanks Twisters

Columbus East dropped only five games in the five matches Monday in rolling to a 5-0 win against Oldenburg Academy.

Erik Takahashi beat Will Hollingsworth at No. 1 singles, and Matthew Degner topped Clay Eckstein at No. 2 singles, both by 6-1, 6-0 scores for the Olympians (3-3). Brady Redelman downed Jack Freeland 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

East’s Ethan Bumbalough and Jacob Detter beat Carson Ruter and Zach Phillips 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Tyler Ernst and Henry Ulrich defeated Jonah Short and Carson Phillips 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers edge Jets

HOPE — Hauser won both doubles matches, but Edinburgh swept the singles matches to claim a 3-2 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Max Blandford beat Caleb Wallace 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Austin Brockman topped Jackson Burcham 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Milas Burkman defeated JJ Dickey 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (2-6, 2-1).

The Jets’ Levi Gollmer and Hunter Pappano downed Bailey Totten and Braylon Lenkner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles Jentzen Bechtel and Kameron Blair blanked Teddy Crawhorn and Jayson Music 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles for the the Jets (1-4, 0-1).

Eagles fall to Cubs

FRANKLIN — Franklin won two matches on the court and two others by forfeit in a 4-0 win against Brown County.

The Eagles’ Owen East dropped the first set 6-2 and was leading the second set 3-2 when it was called because of lightning,

Also for Brown County (2-7), Jack Sichting fell to Caleb Funkhouser 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. John Kirchoffer and Sawyer Gore lost to Brady Tucker and Cole Tucker 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

East stops Seymour

SEYMOUR — Columbus East put four golfers in the 40s in picking up a 181-197 win against Seymour at Shadowood.

Carter Gant, Katie Hong and Lilly Steinwedel all shot 44 for the Olympians. Ali Trueblood carded a personal-best 49, while Dyana Foster added a 55, Avery Brooks had a 56 and Grace LaSell finished with a 62.

Panthers down Mustangs

NORTH VERNON — Sophia Curry won medalist honors with a 40 to lead Jennings County to a 194-253 win against New Washington at St. Anne’s.

Alexis Carson carded a 43 for the Panthers. Lauren Galvan added a 52, Rachael Manning shot 59, Shelby Davis had a 62 and Dakota Carr finished with a 65.

Twisters top Jets

OLDENBURG — Hauser had a penalty kick opportunity to tie Class A No. 19 Oldenburg Academy in the second half, but the Twisters saved that PK, then added a late goal to post a 2-0 victory.

Luke Bruner posted 14 saves for the Jets (0-2).

VOLLEYBALL

Cougars sweep Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — South Decatur had little trouble in rolling to a 25-11, 25-15, 25-10 win at Crothersville.

Sophie Bushhorn recorded 13 kills and 12 digs, and Zsophia Sharp had one block and eight aces to lead the Cougars (7-6). Makayla Somers notched 23 assists.

Also for South Decatur, Sharp pounded seven kills, Paige McQueen added six kills and 11 digs and Molly Eden had six kills. Selma Smith tallied eight digs and one ace, and Bushhorn served two aces.

GIRLS SOCCER

Trinity game stopped

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran was leading Austin 6-0 when an Austin player was hit in the face by a kicked ball in the 37th minute and had to be taken by ambulance to Schneck Medical Center. The game was stopped at that point and declared a “paused game.”

Emma Myers netted four goals and two assists, and Kaydence Miller added two goalas and one assist for the Cougars (1-4). Bailey Reimer also had an assist.

North, East games called

Columbus North’s home game against Plainfield and Columbus East’s game at Franklin were called because of lightning.
