Suspect arrested on multiple charges after foot chase

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a wanted man after a foot chase on Saturday evening.

At approximately 5 p.m., CPD officers observed Travis D. Stephens, 40, of Needham, Indiana in the 1500 block of Grand Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. Officers confirmed a Shelby County warrant for Stephens’ arrest and when they approached him, Stephens attempted to flee the area on foot.

Stephens ran into a nearby apartment and was apprehended a short time later in a fenced area behind the apartment, Harris said.

Officers recovered three small bags containing methamphetamine from the suspect’s pants pockets and he was later transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:
–Shelby County Warrant
–Possession of Methamphetamine
–Resisting Law Enforcement
