A noncompetitive environment in which children ages 4 to 10 can learn the basic skills of hockey without distractions that are often associated with an overemphasis on winning. Galleries, museums, exhibits

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 524 Third St., Columbus. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BCHS hosts two permanent exhibits that share the history and heritage of Bartholomew County. Learn about our county through interactive, hands-on exhibits that include a map table, notable people, county timeline, Then and Now, Did You Know, early industrialists and videos of Reeves steam engines. YELLOW TRAIL MUSEUM/VISITOR CENTER, west side of Hope Town Square, 644 Main St., Hope. THE REPUBLIC BUILDING GALLERY, 333 Second St., Columbus. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Indiana University J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program presents Arboreta, an exhibition by artist John Berry, in the gallery. Arboreta draws inspiration from the history, structures, and resilience of allotment gardens, most recently the Schrebergartens of Leipzig, exploring their implications for how we organize our images, our identity, and our communities. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Berry will give an artist talk at 6:45 p.m. in the auditorium at the Republic Building. The exhibition will run through Sept. 30.
