Services and studies

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. J.A.M. (children’s church) is offered at both services. The church also offers Sunday school classes at 10 a.m.

Have you ever wanted to ask Jesus a question face to face? We may not get a chance in this life, but others had that opportunity during Jesus’ life. Sundays through Oct. 2, we will explore those questions, Jesus’ answers, and what they mean for us today in our sermon series, “The Things They Asked.”

Every Thursday, when school is in full day session, a $4 taco/chicken lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Pit Stop (Taco Church) Lunch.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club and teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

Community Church of Columbus — Community Church of Columbus meets for Sunday service at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The second service is livestreamed and available on the Community Church’s Columbus Indiana Facebook page and Community Church of Columbus YouTube channel.

East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Pastor Jongmin Lee will bring the message at the 9 a.m. Sunday morning worship service. The blended worship service includes praise music, traditional hymns and Children’s Moment. Sunday school is held immediately following the morning service, and classes are available for all ages and Bible interests. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.

A Free Hot Meal will be served Sept. 11 and the 2nd Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Youth Center Building, all are welcome to come!

Fairlawn Presbyterian Church — The church is now open for in-person service at 9:30 a.m. If you would like to join on Zoom, please email the church office at [email protected] to request a Zoom link.

Fellowship and coffee hour is every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Please contact the church for the Zoom link.

Women’s Bible study is the third Tuesday each month at 1 p.m. with “Holy Envy” by Barbara Brown Taylor.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. in-person and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Most Sundays, Sunday school and an adult Bible study are offered from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Wednesday evening worship (masks required) takes place at 6:30 p.m. each week. The congregation also livestreams a Daily Devotion and Prayer Mondays through Thursdays at 7 a.m. on the Facebook page.

Preschool classes began on Aug. 16 and the congregation offers an afterschool program each school day from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with busing from Southside Elementary.

First Baptist Church — First Baptist welcomes all to join at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in person or at firstbaptistcolumbus.org/video for their livestreamed service. Recordings of the services are also available.

First Christian Church — The church is offering services in person and online at 9 and 10:30 a.m. FCC Kids is at 10:30 a.m. and FCC Teens is at 9 a.m.

First Lutheran Church — The church offers in-person worship on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. for the classic service and 11:15 a.m. for the casual service. Livestreaming of both services can be accessed on the church’s YouTube page.

Starting its 22nd year, the church will host Sunrise Bible Study which ministers to people with intellectual disabilities. The year will begin on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. with Wounded Healer leading the praise music followed by prayer and fellowship. The study will begin with God Created the World on Sept. 19. First Presbyterian Church — On this Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost the church’s focus goes toward the actions of God toward us humans, seeking us out. Pastor Felipe will preach on Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28, 1 Timothy 1:12-17 and Luke 15:1-10 a sermon titled “Feeling Found.”

The church is worshiping in person in the sanctuary (masks requested inside). The service will be at 9:30 a.m. at church or livestreamed on Facebook, Zoom or YouTube.

People in the community in need of a meal are invited to our Hot Meals offered Fridays at 5 p.m. (Please enter through the glass doors on Franklin Street.) We are an LGBTQ-friendly church, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m., Jen Riddle will deliver the message, “Who Is Missing?” The scripture will be Luke 15:1-10.

The church encourages those attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the service. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary. Masks are optional. Sunday school for kids up to eighth grade will begin at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Childcare will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service.

For those unable to attend the in-person service or not yet comfortable meeting in person, service livestreams will be available on the church Facebook page, facebook.com/columbusfumc, and our YouTube channel (go to youtube.com and search for FUMC Columbus). Videos will be available on the church website for later viewing as well.

On Friday, Sept. 16, the church will host Arkady (cello) and Tamara (piano) Orlovsky as part of the Fridays@First concert series. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are encouraged.

Flintwood Wesleyan Church — Sunday morning worship begins at 9 a.m. with the Amplify (contemporary) service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. The Well (traditional) service begins at 11 a.m. Both worship services are led by Pastor Wesley Jones. The church’s Sunday Amplify services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Wednesday activities begin with a meal served at 5:30 p.m. in the friendship center. The iKids program begins at 6:15 p.m. and youth meet downstairs in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Prayer team meets in the prayer room downstairs in the main building at 6:15 p.m., and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Scouts are meeting Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Garden City Christian Church — Sunday School classes are available for infants through adults at 9 a.m. Pastor Brian Gilroy continues to lead the church through the 1 Corinthians sermon series during the 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service.

Wednesday evening Youth Group runs from 6 to 8 p.m. for grades 6-12. Trail Life Troop IN-0110 meets twice monthly on Thursdays at 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Grace Lutheran Church — The church hosts Sunday worship services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. in person and livestreamed at gracecolumbus.org. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:30 a.m.

Does being Lutheran really matter? The Rev. Will Weedon will speak on “The Lutheran Difference: the Way of the First Evangelicals,” tonight, Sept. 10, at the church. Weedon is the author of several books and host of the podcast, “The Word of the Lord Endures Forever.” A meal is served at 5:30 p.m., followed by Weedon at 6:15 p.m. There will be Q&A at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome. On Sept. 11, Will Weedon’s sermon topic will be, “What Man of You?” based on Luke 15:1-10. The Rev. Weedon will lead Bible class at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial Baptist Church — The church is offering in-person and online worship services at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school is offered online at 10:45 a.m. Online services are via Facebook and YouTube.

During the fall, the church will be exploring the topic “What Disciples Do.” Join on Sept. 18 for Women’s Sunday. The speaker for this event will be Kim Wright. On Sept. 25, the message will be delivered by Kelly Daugherty, Executive Director of Love Chapel.

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit their little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books.

Newbern United Methodist Church — The church is practicing strict COVID-19 preventative measures. Masks are required. All activities are postponed until further notice except for Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. and online Bible study each Wednesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Al White, the church’s transitional pastor, is leading worship and sharing messages that encourage firm foundations of faith in Jesus. Simple church — simply Jesus.

The church has added a time for discipleship growth at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. There’s always a coffee and donut time downstairs before the morning worship time at 10 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church —“Church on the Lawn” will take place on Sunday morning, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. — that is a location and time change from the usual 9 a.m. service inside the church. Those attending should bring their lawn chairs. If there should be rain, the service will be inside at 10 a.m.

Pastor Milne’s sermon title will be “RE:imagine Regret,” and Scripture will come from 1st Timothy 1:12-17.

Kathy Bush will serve as worship and song leader, and Teresa Covert will share a message with the children.

Prior to the service, the United Methodist Men’s group will be meeting in the fellowship hall at 7:15 a.m., their usual time.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the church, a Bible study will be held; it will be called “The Chosen” and will last for the following seven Monday evenings.

Choir practice has begun again and will be meeting each Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Kathy Bush is the director.

The United Methodist Women of Faith will meet at 6 p.m. at the church on September 15.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Sandy Hook United Methodist Church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. The church will offer two services on Sept. 11 — the traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and the contemporary service at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Dazet will bring the message “RE:image Regret” as part of the new sermon series “RE:boot.”

Nursery is available for children 2 and younger from 8:30 a.m. until the end of the second service. Sunday school classes are offered between services at 10 a.m.

Tonight, Sept. 10, the church will have an outdoor movie at dusk, “Sing 2”. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Movie, activities and popcorn will be offered! Rain plans move inside.

On Sept. 25, there will be one service at 10 a.m. with a hog roast meal served afterward. This will be to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Wertz Memorial Church and the 50th anniversary of the building that is Sandy Hook United Methodist. Anyone with history or ties to either is welcome.

St. Paul Episcopal Church — Join the church for Sunday worship at 10:15 a.m. in person or livestreamed on the church’s website, stpaulscolumbus.org.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — Pastor Jeff Patterson will present the message “For the Sake of One” based on Luke 15:1-10 Sunday at the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

Christian fellowship will begin at 9:10 a.m. Christian educational classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m. Zach Matthews will lead the adult Bible study, “Logical Reasoning, How to Build a Sound Argument.” The Spanish worship service will be in the fellowship room at 10:45 a.m. with Convivio (Life Together) at noon.

All ladies are invited to the LWML Workshop Sunday at noon in the Education Building to make fleece blankets for flood survivors in Kentucky. A light lunch will be served.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM, which also broadcasts the Lutheran Hour every Sunday at 7 p.m.

Wednesday adult Bible classes meet in the fellowship room at 9 a.m. studying the Gospel of John, and at 6 p.m. studying the Gospel of Luke. All are welcome.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m., will be the annual Water Communion Ingathering Service. Water from different places is combined, symbolizing the essential role of water and our reuniting after our travels during the summer months. Those attending may bring water from special places in their lives: ponds, creeks, a rain barrel, the kitchen sink, etc.

Events

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Grace’s Table is a free meal available for anyone to attend. The meal is held Sept. 11 and every second Sunday at 5 p.m. inside the Youth Center Building adjacent to the main church building.

Northview Church — “The Storehouse” exists to serve those in need who may find themselves recovering from a situation such as a fire, elderly on fixed income, single parents, sickness, homelessness, incarceration, etc. Clothing and household goods are provided free.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Three years in the making due to COVID, the Fall Bazaar 2022 is finally happening! With all the conflict in the world today, this event is to raise money for missions to provide outreach to our community and worldwide, whether it is to help one person or one community/country.

Come and shop with the best on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a variety of stations selling items in settings like a boutique, handmade crafts, greenhouse, library, sweet shop, and flea market items. The money from the bazaar is 100% going to mission work for the church. Being a missional event, the church is also collecting Tomato Soup at this event to go toward our goal of 1,300 cans. This will take place in the parking lot of the church or inside if inclement weather.
