COLUMBUS, Ind. — A jury has been seated for the trial of Shiam Sunder Shankara Subramanian, 25, Columbus, in Bartholomew Circuit Court, who is accused in the 2021 hit-and-run death of a teenager attempting to board a Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. bus near her home.

Subramanian faces charges of Level 4 felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury and Level 5 felony passing a school bus when arm signal is extended causing death in the Aug. 30, 2021 death of 16-year-old Columbus East High School student Lily J. Streeval.

A total of 114 potential jurors were initially called on Monday.

Investigators said the stop arm signal on Streeval’s school bus was extended and warning lights were flashing when Subramanian is accused of striking the teen with his vehicle as she crossed South Gladstone Avenue to board the BCSC bus.

Investigators said Subramanian left the scene, pursued by another driver behind the school bus, Brian Rea, until Subramanian got his car stuck in the yard of a law enforcement officer and was taken into custody, court records state. Streeval was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived at Columbus Regional Hospital, investigators said.
