Man arrested and accused of murder in death of 61-year-old who was found near Indianapolis Road treeline

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested Saturday evening on a preliminary charge of murder in the ongoing investigation into the death of a Columbus resident.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. Friday morning, Columbus police officers were dispatched to
the area of Indianapolis Road and Tellman Road in regards to a disturbance, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When the officers arrived, they located Coy Wayne Thompson, 61, of Columbus along a woodline near the roadway, Harris said. Thompson was transported to Columbus
Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Police log records indicate police and first responders were sent to the location in regards to a stabbing.

As a result of the investigation that was conducted by Columbus police officers in conjunction with the Bartholomew County Death Investigation Team, law enforcement officers arrested Joshua R. Davis, 43, of Columbus on a preliminary charge of murder, Harris said.

He was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the charge where he remains
incarcerated, jail officials said.

The Bartholomew County Death Investigation Team which consists of law enforcement officers from the ColumbusPolice Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police, as well as the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting with this ongoing investigation.
