Dora Jean Bingham

COLUMBUS

Dora Jean Bingham, 79, of Columbus, passed away on September 12, 2022, at her home. She was born on October 27, 1942, to birthparents Harold E. Gommel and Marjorie J. Gommel and parents Adrene V. (DeBusk) and Glen Lane. She was the spouse of the late Robert R. Bingham.

Dora (commonly known as Jeannie) was a generous, kind, and caring lady who enjoyed painting, word puzzles, and walking her little dog Sadie. She had worked previously as a hairdresser prior to her M.S. diagnosis, then her focus became her family’s care and her own health. She had attended East Columbus United Methodist Church for several years.

Dora is survived by her daughters Angela G. Goodwin of Columbus, IN and Marjorie L. (Stuart) Ballinger of Hamble, England, and her son Joseph R. Bingham of Columbus, IN; the children of her late husband including Scott (Jeanie) Bingham of Lancaster, OH and their children and families; grandchildren Jeremy Grimes and his sons, Andrew Grimes, and Chantel Ledbetter; and her brother Dennis (Alma) Gommel.

Dora is preceded in death by her parents and husband; brother Harold (Marilyn) Lane; sisters Phyllis (John) Washuda and Georgianna Lane.

The funeral will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 23rd at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek Carpenter officiating. Calling will be Friday, September 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the burial service following at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
