The Sidewalk Prophets’ pop music message of God’s love has spread far and wide since the band formed years ago at Indiana’s Anderson University.

Consider the following: The group has amassed more than 240 million career on-demand streams and sold more than 923,000 in equivalent album sales and 1.88 million digital tracks. In addition, on Christian radio, the group has garnered five No. 1 songs, nine Top 5 radio singles and more than 54.2 million views on YouTube.

The ensemble will bring that success to a concert at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Jennings County High School, 800 W. Walnut St. in North Vernon., as part of the current “I Believe It Now” tour. The Columbus-based Bridge FM Christian radio station at 90.3 FM is helping present and promote the show.

The group is known for songs such as “The Words I Would Say,” “You Love Me Anyway” and “Live Like That.” Those tunes are spread among three major albums — “These Simple Truths” (2009), “Live Like That” (2012) and “Something Different” (2015).

Band members are simply happy to be touring again after remembering the struggles of the COVID-19 pandemic. Founding member Dave Frey told Listen Iowa in an interview a couple years ago that there have been spiritual lessons hidden in the challenges since March 2020.

“I think we’ll have learned that nothing is out of God’s hands,” Frey said before the worst of the pandemic was over. “We’ll have solidified the fact that he is still in control, and will have done that by realizing that we’re still alive and breathing and able to move forward.

“I think a year from now, I think we’ll say, ‘I don’t know if things will ever be the same, or normal again, but I’m grateful for a lot of things that happened during that time.’ Time with the family, having to be creative. Sometimes when you’re forced to have that creativity, it can bring out the best in people.”

In the early days, the band toured with such headlining Christian acts such as Jeremy Camp and Audio Adrenaline. Yet group members insist they are called to do more than entertain. For instance, they lead prayer devotional sessions with some ticket buyers before some concerts.
