William “Bill” Sheets

William “Bill” Sheets, age 89, the son of William C. and Mildred (Midge) Vickery, was born May 26th, 1933, in Columbus, IN, and died Sept. 28th, 2022 in Louisville, KY.

He attended Purdue University after service in the Air Force and then entered St. Meinrad Archabbey where he was known as Brother Leonard OSB. It was here that he became proficient in photography and continued this profession when he returned to the secular world. In 1970, he married the former Mary Ann Reitman and they moved to Louisville and became active members of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Bill was often seen with camera in hand photographing events, award dinners, and interesting people. He was an avid volunteer for numerous organizations in the greater Louisville area and throughout Kentucky. He was especially active with Habitat for Humanity, collected shoes for Water Step, built and refurbished homes in Appalachia with Hand in Hand Ministries and helped with hurricane disaster recovery in Louisiana.

His surviving family includes Mary Ann, his wife of fifty-two years; daughter, Karen, and her spouse, Trey Mobley; son, Nathan, and his wife Lexi; and their children, Will and Emmie. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Bierlein, and multiple nieces and nephews.

For the past eight years, Bill suffered from Alzheimer’s. This Monday we will be celebrating the life of Bill that we all knew and loved.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 2nd, 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY. There will be a visitation from 9:00 am – 10:00 am on Monday, October 3rd at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY, with a funeral Mass following at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name to Community Catholic Center of Louisville or Hand in Hand Ministries.
