Prep Sports Notebook: Kennedy hosting Dash for Diabetes

Columbus East softball senior Megan Kennedy will be hosting Dash for Diabetes 5K walk as part of her senior project on Oct. 15 with a 9 a.m. start time. The race will begin at the Mill Race Tower and end at Noblitt Park.

At 4 years old, Kennedy was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. She is raising money in helping to find a cure.

All proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association.

Utterback to swim at Denison

Columbus North senior swimmer Daniel Utterback recently committed to Denison University, which is located in Granville, Ohio.

Last year at the state meet, Utterback finished 10th in the 100-yard freestyle, 14th in the 200 freestyle and swam on the 10th-place 400 freestyle relay and 11th-place 200 freestyle relay teams.

Seegers to play baseball at IUPUC

South Decatur senior Avery Seegers has committed to play baseball at IUPUC.

Last year as a junior, Seegers led the Cougars with a .485 batting average, nine doubles, two homers, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored. On the mound, he went 2-2 with a 0.84 ERA.

Volleyball players reach milestones

A couple of volleyball career milestones were eclipsed by local players this week.

Columbus North senior Emily Stair reached 1,000 digs for her varsity career in Tuesday’s four-set loss at Bloomington South. Stair has been at North the past two years after beginning her career at Columbus Christian.

Trinity Lutheran sophomore Addison Darlage recorded her 2,000th career assists in Tuesday’s three-set win against Shawe Memorial.

Football draw set for Sunday

Columbus North and Columbus East will find out their postseason paths when the IHSAA conducts its postseason football draw beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday. The draw will be livestreamed at ihsaatv.org

East will be in a 5A Sectional with Bloomington South, Bloomington North and Seymour. Columbus North will be in a 6A Sectional with Center Grove, Franklin Central and Jeffersonville.
