COLUMBUS

Betty Jean Dile Walker went to be with God in heaven on May 17, 2022. Betty was born on June 26, 1938 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Eugene “Gene” Walker, her parents Major Dile and Leada “Duby” Burton Dile Blair, her brother Noah Dile and her stepfather Kenneth Haywood Blair, sisters, Geneva, Anna Katherine and Linda Marie Dile.

Survivors include son, Anthony E. (Kelly) Walker; daughters, Sandra K “Sandy” (Tom) Benson, Rita G. (Roger) Graham and Cheryl A. “Cheri” Dixon; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearlie Whited, Elizabeth (Jim) Hammond, Sue Ballard, and Naomi (David) Pyle; brother, Ray (Mary) Dile; many nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law and friend Lois Walker. A special niece Melissa Whited that visited quite often to keep her company and help out.

In her younger days Betty worked at Sammy’s Root Beer stand where she met her loving husband, Gene. She also worked at Ernie’s Record Shop until they married. At some point she started working at Arvin Industries at various jobs. In her later years, she worked at Cummins before retiring.

She enjoyed family and planning family gatherings. She included everyone, it didn’t matter who you were, you were always invited. She also enjoyed her church families and helping with gatherings for various occasions. She enjoyed people and all her families.

She loved traveling with Gene and others in their motor homes. She tried to get all her children on a trip with them. She was always welcoming and full of laughter when others were around. She enjoyed life!

She was an avid gardener and always involved her family in that joy. She would show off her garden by taking you through it, usually in the golf cart. Showing off her green thumb and the wonderful results she and the good Lord would produce. She would always share the bounty from her garden.

She is sadly missed by family and friends and will be for a very long time because of all the love she shared.

Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at East Columbus Christian Church with visitation and fellowship from 2-3:00 p.m. and Celebration of life at 3:00p.m.
