National Weather Service issues ‘red flag warning’ for critical fire conditions in area

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag warning” from noon to 7 p.m. today for critical fire conditions in central Indiana, including Bartholomew County.

Winds will be southwest from 15 to 25 mph gusting up to 40 mph and relative humidity will be as low as 16%, the weather service said.

Any fires that develop are likely to spread rapidly due to weather conditions, forecasters said.

Outdoor burning is not recommended and motorists are asked to never throw burning cigarettes out of a vehicle along roadways.
