Letter: Edinburgh shouldn’t turn into an industrial park

From: Paula Jarrett

Edinburgh

Today I saw a new factory opening up in Edinburgh, or as I call it, “ no man’s land.” Our quaint area is soon to be the new industrial park.

I wonder if the engineers have thought out traffic flow on such an already busy U.S. 31? The outlet mall is a zoo from October until January. There’s just one main entrance, which has caused traffic to back up; at times a sheriff deputy is needed.

Now enter all the factories going up in no man’s land, adding to an already heavily traveled area. I dread the traffic. It’s going to be like little Greenwood, and I don’t think the people who live up here are satisfied with this growth. All of these factories have an Edinburgh address, which is Johnson County.

I am not happy with my taxes going up due to this growth. So why aren’t the residents of Edinburgh having to pay taxes since it has an Edinburgh address? My late stepfather was a geologist, and he said it would cost the state too much money to annex this part of Bartholomew County into Johnson. Thirty seven years ago nothing was up here. I’m still happy here.

It’s just too bad these factories aren’t located in a more secluded site, like the industrial park on south I-65. My views of a beautiful sunrise, will be obstructed by all this growth. It’s ruined the environment, as many Canadian geese liked those fields and all the other wildlife.

Sometimes growth is detrimental to humans and wildlife.
