Columbus firefighters conducting training on house at 21st and Central

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Fire Department will be conducting fire department training at an acquired residential structure in the area of 21st Street and Central Avenue today (Thursday) and concluding on Saturday (Oct. 22). Firefighters will be training in both the interior and exterior of the residence, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

Training will include forcible entry training, search and rescue training and ventilation training. For a portion of the training, firefighter will be using a smoke generation machine that produces light colored theatrical smoke. No actual fire will be used for any portion of the training conducted at the acquired structure, Wilson said.

Residents and motorist in the area can expect to see a fire department presence while the training is being conducted. The Columbus Fire Department requests that residents and motorist use caution when traveling in the area while fire department training is being conducted.
