Dear editor and readers, please vote for the candidates who will protect our democracy, support laws to keep us safe and safeguard the freedoms we have fought so hard to attain.
Vote for Cinde Wirth for US House District 6 and Ross Thomas for Indiana House of Representatives for District 59.
Remember that, even in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary, the successful transfer of power was questioned by two of our Republican incumbents. And their party has yet to condemn the legislators and current candidates who remain election deniers!
Rep. Greg Pence objected to President Joe Biden’s election certification – even though some of those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, wanted to hang his own brother, Vice President Mike Pence. We watched on television as he and his brother were scurried away from the danger on Jan. 6 and yet (again with insurmountable evidence) he voted to acquit Trump of inciting the insurrection.
Rep. Ryan Lauer questioned the results of our last presidential election and gave support to false claims of voter fraud. He even traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, to join a bogus, unauthorized “audit” of the Arizona election results by election deniers.
Remember our children who have grown up with active shooter drills, terrified their school will be the next target.
Pence and Lauer support the NRA and gun lobbyists rather than strengthening gun-sense legislation. Pence voted no to banning assault weapons (HR 808). Lauer voted for “constitutional carry,” a bill enacted into law that was opposed by Indiana law enforcement and the Indiana State Police superintendent. To show his support for the Second Amendment, a smiling Lauer was recently pictured in the Republic holding a weapon of war, perhaps not realizing how devastating his picture might be to the thousands of victims and survivors ripped apart each day by gun violence.
Remember all of the women and girls in your life. Pence voted no to protecting contraception access (HR 373) and Lauer voted for Indiana’s nearly total ban on abortion!
Rep. Pence and Rep. Lauer and the Republican Party are out of touch and too extreme.
Cinde Wirth and Ross Thomas will defend our democracy, protect a woman’s right to reproductive health care, and support gun-sense legislation.
The stakes could not be higher. Please vote for Cinde Wirth for US House District 6 and Ross Thomas for Indiana State Representative District 59.
