Wine-A-Ree set Saturday at Commons

The 13th annual Wine-A-Ree wine, beer and spirits tasting festival will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in downtown Columbus.

This event includes unlimited free samples and purchase options from participating wineries, breweries and distilleries. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

A commemorative wine or beer glass is included in the price of the ticket. A VIP tasting hour will be from noon to 1 p.m. VIP tickets are $50 and are limited. VIP guests will receive a gift and a chance in a drawing for a special door prize.

Last year’s fundraiser generated about $15,000, slightly below a usual $25,000, according to organizers.

“We’d really like to get back to that (total),” said Virginia Moats, the event coordinator.

Some of the vendors for this year’s gathering include Best Vineyards, Holtkamp Winery, Huber Winer, Mallow Run Winery, Winzerwald Winery, Quaff On, Hard Truth, and Ertel Cellars. Returning again this year is de Tours of Indiana Wines. Food will be available for purchase.

The event will include a silent auction that will include approximately 50 baskets of items, ranging from ceramic art to sports tickets. Organizers encourage people to check the Wine-A-Ree Facebook event page for updates.

All proceeds benefit Hoosier Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America, which serves more than 6,000 young people in 18 counties of south-central Indiana. Funds go to everything from maintenance at Maumee Scout Reservation in Norman to supplies for a broad range of merit badges.
