HOPE — The Republican sweep made its way into the Hope Town Council races Tuesday.

Council president and Democrat Jerry Bragg was not elected to another term as an at-large council member representing Bartholomew County’s second largest community.

The other incumbent at-large member, Republican Clyde Compton, was defeated during the May primary.

On Jan. 1, two Republicans — Herby Asher and Shanon Pittman — will become the at-large council members for at least the next four years.

After edging out Compton during the primary, fellow Republican Stephanie Long dropped out of the race after moving away from Hope on Sept. 14.

Two days later, GOP leaders submitted Asher’s name as Long’s replacement. Employed by a local manufacturer, Asher is well-known for coaching a variety of youth softball teams in Hope.

Pittman is employed by the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp.
