Letter: Renewables’ benefits include opportunities for women

In a recent letter to the editor published in The Republic Editor, Cathy Caldie from Columbus wrote about the benefits of renewable energy and being energy independent (“County should see the bright side and fully embrace solar energy,” Oct. 26.)

As an operations manager at EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA)’s Riverstart Solar project in Winchester and a lifelong Hoosier, I have seen the benefits of renewables in Indiana at the local and state levels.

In my first role at EDPR NA’s Headwaters Wind Farm in Randolph County, we were empowered to connect within our community. Moreover, as a woman working in the renewable energy industry, I have witnessed the growth of solar energy in Indiana, providing job opportunities to Indiana men and women.

For those reasons and many more, I am proud to work alongside renewable energy experts who create programs to promote equal opportunities for women through development and representation.
