The Brown County YMCA Hilly Half Marathon highlights our county, promotes health, well-being and creates a true sense of community. The half-marathon scenic route starts and finishes at the saddle barn/lower shelter house, winding its way through picturesque Brown County State Park. Up hills, past the fire tower, vistas and then a fast 2 mile downhill finish. This event is a fundraiser for the Brown County Community YMCA with no refunds or deferrals. Questions? BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 524 Third St., Columbus. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BCHS hosts two permanent exhibits that share the history and heritage of Bartholomew County. Learn about our county through interactive, hands-on exhibits that include a map table, notable people, county timeline, Then and Now, Did You Know, early industrialists and videos of Reeves steam engines. The historical society also hosts rotating exhibits throughout the year featuring items from their extensive collection. Decorated trees, extraordinary displays and items from the permanent collection will transform the museum into everyone’s favorite time of year. November featured artists are Ruth Wert and Sharon Jungclaus-Gould. Wert creates beautiful jewelry using antique pins, pendants and other antique and unique findings. She weaves intricate Nantucket baskets, hand-colors silk scarves and frames hand-painted silk panels giving the look of stained glass. Jungclaus-Gould is a mixed-media artist who creates beautiful landscape paintings, some with southwest themes, as well as abstracts. Her art includes collage, jewelry, and finely crafted gourd art.
