James D. Whipker

NASHVILLE

James D. Whipker, 79, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his Brown County home.

Jim was born on September 28, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana to Halford Whipker, and Pauline Chambers Whipker. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1963 and married Barbara J. Harris, also of Columbus, on July 20, 1963.

Known as “Dizzy Dean” to his CB friends, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying model airplanes, but one of his favorite things to do was to sit around a table with family and friends playing euchre and other card games. Jim supported his family by working at Cummins Engine Company. He made many lifelong friends during his 35 years with the company before retiring in 2008.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara Whipker; four children, Regina (Eric) McDonald of Ninevah, Rhonda (Scott) Butler of Washington, Renea (Lee) Lawson of Nevada, and Raymond (Rhonda) Whipker of Scottsburg; a brother Richard (Janet) Whipker, of Colorado; as well as, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Halford, and Pauline Whipker; as well as his sister, Judith Ann Whipker Walker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Free Methodist Church, of which Jim has been a member since September 20, 1967.

Jim’s life and memory will be honored at a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
