Coroner’s office identifies victim in Edinburgh shooting

The Bartholomew County Coroner’s office has released the identity of the shooting victim in Edinburgh on Thanksgiving Day.

The Bartholomew County Coroner’s office identified the victim as 49-year-old Wayne E. McGeorge, Edinburgh. Cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy, according to the coroner’s office.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies have arrested an Edinburgh man on a preliminary charge of murder after a shooting at 6:13 p.m. Thursday in the area of 15000 N. Bluff Road.

Deputies arrested Damion Bryant, 20, Edinburgh, who was identified as the shooter and interviewed by detectives before being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, investigators said.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a male subject suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, investigators said.

Responding personnel from German Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional
Hospital EMS administered medical aid, however the victim was later pronounced deceased at Columbus Regional Hospital.

“At this time the investigation is ongoing, we will not be releasing further details surrounding this incident at this time. The coroner’s office
will be the point of contact for information related to the victim,” said BCSO spokesperson Detective Dane Duke. The Republic has reached out to the coroner’s office for information about the victim.

Sheriff Matthew A. Myers voiced concern about the multiple firearm related incidents in the
community on Thanksgiving Day saying, “The community had three firearm related events on Thanksgiving Day alone. Law enforcement as a whole takes gun violence very seriously and we are no different here at your sheriff’s office. We will work diligently to bring those who commit violence against members of our community to justice.”
